Policy On Children’s Library Cards
All children birth through sixth grade are eligible for a Merrick Library card. Children's cards are issued at the Children's Room desk. If a child is getting a card for the first time, and is in seventh grade or 12 years of age, s/ he is entitled to an adult card.
A parent must show proof of residency in the Merrick School district. This can be their own library card if it is in good standing or a driver's license. Otherwise, (2) proofs with their address are required. Parent must sign the application, accepting responsibility for all materials borrowed on their child's card. The child's name appears in red on the card.
Upon turning 12, or entering seventh grade, the name is rewritten in black ink and status changed in the computer.
Children who attend a school in Merrick but live in another community must obtain a card from their home library. Nassau library cards can be used in any Nassau library.
