Home Delivery Service Procedure

Homebound delivery service is the selection and delivery of library materials by a Merrick Library staff member. Deliveries will be made on a biweekly basis depending on the availability of the staff, with a limit of ten items per delivery to individual patrons.Reference librarians will select books, in original print format, large print, or audio book format, according to the preferences of the homebound library user.  

To qualify for this service, patrons must reside within Merrick Union Free School District 25 and have a valid Merrick library card in good standing.  Residents are to be considered homebound if they have a condition (due to illness or injury) that restricts their ability to leave their place of residence.

Materials will be delivered to the patron’s door; no inside deliveries will be made. At the time new materials are delivered, the items from the previous delivery will be retrieved and returned to the library in a bag which will be provided by the Merrick Library.

There is no fee for the homebound delivery service. Overdue fees will not be charged on homebound materials. The Library’s standard fee schedule shall apply for damaged or lost items.

An application is available at the Adult Reference Desk enabling patrons to specify what materials they do and don’t want from Homebound Services or you can download it here.  A “Certifying Authority” (doctor, caregiver, etc.) will be required to fill out the last page in order to be approved by the Library Director.
